Just a few days ago we reached a new plateau in history, the beginning of the end of the 20th century. What? But I thought the year 2000 started a new century? Well actually, no it did not. The new century does not start until 1 January 2001. It is just the idea of 2000 that got folks worked up. So now that we understand which century we are still in, we can discuss our topic. In the last few years a craze, if you will, has been on the rise to know the future of our lives or the world in general. Many times I have sat and listened to some of these so called psychics on television shows and listened to their world predictions and the predictions of people’s love, life, finances, career moves, etc… Just the other day I listened to a well know psychic speak on a very popular talk show (I will not name this person for my intention is not to focus on anyone in particular, that would not be right. I only use this instance as an example.) and give their predictions concerning things that are to take place with this world and a few popular celebrities. Is this dangerous? Yes. Should Christians be a part of such things? NO, NO, and NO. Now that I have your attention, let me explain why. To do so you open yourself up to the playground of Satan and his playmates, the demons. Guess who is going to get hurt and be bullied around? Let’s take a look at why this is dangerous and what God has to say about the subject.

I would imagine that you are wondering what is the problem with what these psychics are doing. Talk to most of the psychics or mediums and ask them where they receive their insight. Most of them will most likely say from a spirit guide whom is a good spirit. Most will also tell you that each of us has a spirit or a guardian angel that is around to guide and protect us. Now the Bible does mention that there are angels that are here to protect us and do Gods work this is true. However, they can even describe this entity to you and give you there name. This is where I definitely draw the line. The Bible not only warns us that it is dangerous but that it is an abomination/detestable to God. Here are some scriptures that provide the information concerning such practices: (Note that all quotes come from the New International Version (NIV))

1. Deuteronomy 18:14, The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.

2. Leviticus 20:6, … Do not practice divination or sorcery.

3. Deuteronomy 18:10-13, Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

4. Leviticus 19:31, Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.

5. Leviticus 20:6, ”‘I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people.

6. 1 Samuel 15:23, For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.

7. 2 Kings 17:17, They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sorcery and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

8. 1 Chronicles 10:13, Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, (Note: This confirms that the dead can be contacted; however, because God forbids it there must be a reason. When you deal with the supernatural you open the door for good and evil, more likely the later. However, the witch that Saul used to contact the spirit of the prophet Samuel was indeed Samuel. But look at his punishment.)

Here we plainly see that the Lord explicitly prohibits us from consulting or even practicing divination, which is the prediction of the future, or even consulting mediums. To do any of these things is a sin and those who partake in these abominations will have to answer to God. Do not think or be fooled into thinking that this is a gift from God or that the entity being consoled is a good spirit. It is not nor can you convince me otherwise. Now this is not to say that there is not a gift of prophecy that is given to some Christians. This does happen in church from time to time; however, it is a message to the believer as the apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 14:2, “Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. This is not the same as predicting the future of your finances, or love life, or the end of the world. Although there is much prophecy concerning the future in the Bible it came from God through his chosen prophets. And the Bible also warns us of false prophets, so do not think that these individuals are prophets of Gods that are out their on the “Psychic Hotline”, or on television. Jesus warns us that in the later days that many false prophets will appear and deceive many people in Matthew 24:10-13, and verses 24-25 state, “24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.” So as you can see even if they say they are prophets of God, they are not because they are being used by Satan to deceive you and many others. If you are consulting psychics, mediums, horoscopes, etc… I urge you to stop for the sake of your soul. God has the answers for your life if you will let him lead and guide you. By letting the powers of Satan guide your life you are doomed not only in this life but in the eternal life.

Oh but this is just the tip of the ice burg. There are other ways that people are being drawn into a dangerous trap that Satan has weaved. It is not just people telling the future or giving advise, but material items such as tarot cards, automatic writing and the talking boards of which the most famous is the Ouija Board. In the book that I am writing, “Spiritual Warfare: Warning Your Soul is in Danger”, I expose these type of devices for what they really are, and that is that they are evil and dangerous. Thousands of people have at one time or another used this board to speak to the other side. I have read many testimonies stating the results of playing or dabbling in such divination. The results are frightening; because when you play with such toys of Satan you are contacting demons not angels from God or the deceased or good spirits. Many believe that yes you can contact evil spirits but they also believe that you can contact good spirits as well. Sorry, this is wrong. The only spirit that will be contacted through an Ouija or any other device is an evil spirit. Satan knows that mankind is a curious bunch, and we will do many things to find out our future, will we be rich, will we find that special someone, will that perfect job come along. Hey, he will do whatever it takes to keep you dabbling in the occult and keep you from God. And that is by telling you everything you would like to know about your future. Hummmm… Think about it, Satan and his demons are a lying, cheating, deceitful bunch that wants to do anything and everything in their power to pull you away from the truth. The truth being that God is God, and his Son Jesus Christ was born, died, then resurrected on the third day, ascended to heaven, and one day soon He is coming back to earth to defeat Satan. Satan knows his time is growing short. He also knows that we as Christians have complete authority over him and the demons through the blood of Jesus Christ. And that scares the daylights out of them as stated from James 2:19,” You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” Here are some verses that tell us about deceiving spirits and demons:

1. 1 Timothy 4:1, The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

2. Revelation 16:14, They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

These are but a few instances in the Bible that tell us specifically to stay away from the deception of the mediums, psychics, devices etc… I pray that if any of you reading this are involved with such evil deception that you will stop and turn your life over to Christ. Do not look to psychics, or devices to find out if your marital affairs will get better, financial problems will end, the job get better, or will life get better. If you are having to look for these answers then my friends, it will not get any better in the long term outlook. Look to Jesus Christ, He is the answer to all your problems. He can help. All you have to do is ask for Him to forgive you, come into you heart and deliver you from the bondage your in at this moment. Trust me, He will set you free and your life will never ever be the same again. If you want to know about prophecies that have been foretold and come true and those yet to take place, then read them in the Bible. It is all there laid out for you to view and understand if you want to.

In a final comment, let me say that I do not judge or condemn the persons who are psychic or use divination devices. I am not saying that these persons are bad or evil. I condemn the practice not them, strictly because of what the Bible tells us. From my experiences with psychics and the Ouija Board it is wrong and dangerous to play around with the supernatural world. Again I am no one’s judge, God Almighty is and that is whom we all must answer to in the end.
